  1.                   IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  4. World War II is designed to run on computers that can display 256 colors.  While it will run on computers that display 16 colors, the quality of images you see on the screen will be poor.

  6. Also, because of the broad range of computers and video boards, compatibility problems sometimes arise.  On some computer systems, World War II may cause some temporary color palette changes.  You can solve this problem by obtaining the latest Windows video drivers from your computer system or video card manufacturer.

  8. Some computers with Cirrus Logic video chip sets (542X Family) and video driver versions 1.43 and earlier may experience problems trying to run World War II and other programs.

  10. After successfully installing and launching World War II, you may experience either of the following:

  12.   No satellite map appears.  The map window is either empty
  13.    or a solid color such as grey.
  14.  
  15.   Partial satellite map appears with the remainder either
  16.    a solid color such as gray, or black, or streaks of
  17.    mixed colors.

  19. If so, then the video driver on your computer is probably the cause of the problem.  The problem can be corrected by changing to a different Windows video driver.

  21. Which video driver to use:
  22. Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or later) supplies several video
  23. drivers.  We have tested the Microsoft high-speed 256 color video driver entitled "Super VGA 640X480 256 Colors" (file name SVGA256.DRV) and this fixes the problem in all cases we have tested.

  25. If you do not have this driver available, then contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft Corporation.  You can contact Microsoft Corporation at 800-426-9400.  They supply the latest Windows Video drivers.

  27. You can also download the latest Cirrus Logic video drivers from their bulletin board at 510-440-9080.  Cirrus Logic will probably have a suitable video driver by the time you read this note.

  30. The Windows manual explains in detail how to replace a device driver.  In the index, look up "Device driver, installing" and follow the instructions.
